Eric Tremblay
Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Tremblay possesses a wealth of business development, marketing, fund raising, and investor relations experience in the oil & gas and income trust sectors, which he earned during his thirteen year tenure at Enerplus Resources Fund. In 1993, Mr. Tremblay began his career at Enerplus as Manager, Corporate Development, and continuously advanced into more senior roles, ultimately culminating in the position of Senior Vice President of Capital Markets. From 1987 to 1993, he pursued a career as a structural design engineer in the North American aerospace industry. Mr. Tremblay held positions with British Petroleum, Canadair and the Boeing Airplane Company. With respect to his education, Mr. Tremblay graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aerospace Engineering.

 

Ben Cheng
President & Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Cheng, former Managing Director of Fortress Investment Group LLC, a premier New York-based private equity and hedge fund company, managed Canada’s first collateralized debt obligation product backed by a diversified portfolio of income trusts and equities. Prior to Fortress, Mr. Cheng was Vice President and Portfolio Manager for CI Funds – Signature High Income Fund, one of Canada’s largest income trust and high yield funds. Mr. Cheng also co-managed the CI Signature Dividend Fund, which invested primarily in preferred equities and dividend paying common shares. Mr. Cheng Fund received the Income Trust Fund of the Year award in 2004.

 

Larry Titley, C.A.

Mr. Titley joined Aston Hill Financial in October 2002 and has over 15 years experience in accounting and finance. As CFO, Mr. Titley is responsible for establishing and maintaining policies and procedures for corporate accounting, cash flow, management and internal controls for the AHF group of companies. Prior to joining Aston Hill, Mr. Titley was Treasurer for the Enerplus Group of Management Companies, overseeing finance and accounting operations for six companies. Mr. Titley attended the University of Calgary where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He obtained his CA designation in 1989 and was the winner of Bronze and Silver medals from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta for exams leading up to the CA designation.

 

Joanne A. Hruska, CFA
President, Catapult Financial Management Inc., Vice President of Portfolio Management

Ms. Hruska is a Chartered Financial Analyst who has successfully invested in the Canadian junior oil and gas sector for the last twelve years. Ms. Hruska brings strong analytical skills from her position as an analyst at a large independent brokerage firm where she covered both the junior oil and gas sector and income trusts. She also worked several years as an Investment Advisor working for both a major bank-owned firm and a small oil and gas boutique firm. Ms. Hruska graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1994 and obtained her Chartered Financial Analyst Designation in 1999.

 

Derek Slemko, CA, CBV
Vice President, Business Development and Controller

Mr. Slemko received his designation as a Chartered Accountant in 2003 after having graduated from the University of Alberta in 2000 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He began his career with KPMG LLP, providing assurance and advisory services to the oil and gas sector. Mr. Slemko spent two years with Enerplus Resources Fund as a Senior Financial Accountant. Prior to joining Aston Hill Financial, Mr. Slemko was Controller of Vault Energy Trust.

 

Andrew LB Hamlin, MBA, MA
Vice President & Portfolio Manager

Mr. Hamlin joined Aston Hill in May 2007, after spending over 5 years in the equity research departments of TD Securities, CIBC World Markets, and GMP Securities. At Aston Hill, Mr. Hamlin is responsible for managing portfolio investments (which include high yield, preferred shares, convertible debentures, and equities) in the transportation, gaming, industrial/manufacturing, chemicals, agriculture, mining, and oil & gas services sectors. Previous experience includes working as a political analyst at the Privy Council Office in Ottawa and on a microfinance project in Brazil. Mr. Hamlin holds a M.B.A. (Schulich School of Business), a M.A. International Relations (Sussex University, UK), and a B.A. Economics & History.

 
     

Vivian Lo, MBA, CFA
Vice President & Portfolio Manager

Ms. Lo joined Aston Hill in January 2007 and is responsible for managing investments in the utilities, energy infrastructure, consumer staples/discretionary and media sectors across all asset classes. Prior to joining Aston Hill, she spent approximately four years at CIBC World Markets in the equity research department covering various industries. Ms. Lo obtained her M.B.A from the Schulich School of Business, a B. Comm. from the University of Toronto, and was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2006.
